Commitment

What is the first thing that comes into mind when hearing the word commitment? “Loyalty, bound, obligation, dedication.” Is it, really? Well, to answer the question, YESSSSS! All of the above are correct. Being committed to something or even someone for that matter, means that in whatever that brings you guys together, you become one. You become imprisoned in the promise that you have made towards something or that someone.
I am no expert in anything. With this being said however, sometime in our lives we bind ourselves to people or something. Be it a relationship, a degree one is trying to complete, a race one is trying to complete or a promise made to someone or yourself for that matter. All of this requires one to be ready in spirit to dedicate themselves, unite themselves, oblige to that someone or something.
The next time you tell yourself you are committed to someone or something, ask yourself whether you have dedicated yourself, obligated to something or someone or even loyal. If you answer no, then you should re consider and work on your priorities and see whether that someone or something fits into your priorities.

Wedding cake-in-the-middle-of-the road

“Look at how beautiful it looks!” “I wonder how much did the owners pay for that cake?” “Ag, I had a better looking cake than that one.” These are comments that people would have should they find a wedding cake in the middle of the road. The question is what does this mean? Well, it is seeing something unusual that would be unlikely to happen.
Many people will have things, comments and thoughts to pass when they see something unusual in front of them. Something of this nature will cause commotion, surprise and curiosity in people and they would want to find out why something of this nature has happened or is happening. Literally speaking, this will distract drivers on the road – commotion, it will raise their eye-brows – surprise and they would want to know why the cake is all of a sudden in the middle of the road and would even want to come out of their cars and see the cake up close – curiosity.

What is the link between Culture/Tradition and Christianity?

I was watching a TV programme earlier today talking about the link between Culture/Tradition and Christianity. I found it really interesting in the sense that people have different views on the topic at hand. The presenter of the show interviewed a few people regarding the issue on whether there was a link between the two or there was no link at all.
The first person interviewed was a bishop of some church in Polokwane. He mentioned that there is no way that the two can mix or have a link. He mentioned that in the bible it states that people should not worship any foreign Gods besides the one from the heavens.
The second interviewed was a Theology lecturer from a university in Pretoria. He gave his opinion from a black person’s point of view. He went on to say if one is black and does not believe in their ancestors and perform traditional/cultural rituals, one has a problem. He posed an interesting question on what black/ who black people believed in before colonization took over the Africa.
As much as both interviewees gave their opinions on the matter, it still leaves me with much confusion as how the two link. I believe in God and I also believe in my ancestors. I feel that both play a huge role in shaping my life and giving me direction.

It is a poor idea to lie to yourself.

Our hearts and our minds tell us different things all the time. For example, your heart might be telling you that you are in love with someone but you decide to ignore those feelings and tell yourself that you actually do not feel anything for that someone. That would be lying to yourself by saying that you not feel anything for that person.
This happens a lot where you find people not being true to themselves about their feelings towards an issue. By doing this, I feel that one sets themselves back in actually discovering new things as well as knowing whether they can do things or not. One will never know their full potential when their lie to themselves.
